Only two months until Courtnall Celebrity Classic tees off

Posted in: Press Releases, Spotlight- May 25, 2011

With just eight weeks to go until the 2011 Courtnall Celebrity Classic arrives on BC’s West Coast, the three brothers behind the star-studded mental health fundraiser are dusting off their clubs in preparation for what just might be the most successful Classic in the event’s history.

Comprised of a fundraising dinner, live and silent auctions, ticketed dance party and celebrity golf tourney, the third Courtnall Celebrity Classic is being presented by Trinidad Drilling and is set to take place July 22 – 24, 2011 at the Victoria Golf Course, Victoria Conference Centre and Fairmont Empress Hotel. Already, corporate sponsorship is on the cusp of a sell-out. Plans for another radio-thon with CFAX 1070 are also in the works.

“The support we’ve seen so far from our sponsors, invited guests and members of the public has been humbling,” said Russ Courtnall. “Even though it’s been seven years since the last Classic, the people and businesses in our community are backing us 100 per cent, recognizing the need for on-going mental health support and services.”

With a fundraising goal of $4 million, all proceeds from the 2011 Courtnall Celebrity Classic will go towards purchasing mental health care equipment and funding patient care programs for the new Patient Care Centre at the Royal Jubilee Hospital, part of the Victoria Hospitals Foundation’s overall $25 million Building Care Together campaign.

“Another coup this year is having distinguished patronage from the Honourable Steven Point, Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia,” said Bruce Courtnall. “And when it comes to celeb guests, residents of Victoria just might, for one weekend, think they’ve arrived on a Hollywood movie set.”

A number of celebrity and golf pro guests are set to make appearances at the gala and golf tourney fundraising events. Some confirmed guests include Hockey Night in Canada’s Ron MacLean, bombshell philanthropist Pamela Anderson, golf pro Ian Leggat and musician Don Felder.

“Other names, like Cuba Gooding Jr., Jamie Foxx and Jason Priestley, have been asked – we’re just waiting for confirmation,” said Geoff Courtnall. “Often, it’s difficult for these people to nail down their schedules until the last minute. But, as RSVPs come in, we’ll keep people in the know via our Twitter and Facebook sites.”

And for those who want to get down in true celebrity-style during the 2011 Courtnall Classic are invited to purchase tickets to the Club 9ONE9 after party on July 22, an event limited to a select number of members of the public, golf pros and celebrities. More information on this event will be released by June 1, 2011.

About the 2011 Courtnall Celebrity Classic
Already a two-time success, the 2011 Courtnall Celebrity Classic will take place this summer, July 22 to 24, 2011, at the Victoria Golf Course, Victoria Conference Centre and Fairmont Empress Hotel. Events for the weekend include a fundraising dinner, silent and live auction and celebrity golf tournament. Previous Courtnall Celebrity Classics, held in 2003 and 2004, raised more than $2 million for the Victoria Hospitals Foundation and helped open the doors to the Archie Courtnall Centre, a Psychiatric Emergency Services Unit at the Royal Jubilee Hospital. Funds raised from the 2011 Classic will go towards the $4 million needed for purchasing mental health care equipment and funding patient care programs for the new Patient Care Centre at the Royal Jubilee Hospital, part of the Victoria Hospitals Foundation’s overall $25 million Building Care Together campaign.
